GREENevada

GREENevada™ – Growing Resources for Environmental Education in Nevada – is a coalition of six non-profits in Reno that includes the Alliance for Climate Education, Black Rock Solar, Envirolution™, GreenPower, Sierra Nevada Journeys, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and Urban Roots Garden Classrooms.

GREENevada™ programs are dedicated to transforming the way K-12 students learn by making every school green and helping students to learn global responsibility through local example. Schools are encouraged to seek help from one, three, or all of GREENevada’s™ partnered organizations to help bring sustainability into their classrooms.

In 2011, GREENevada™ was awarded a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh grant in order to coordinate and host a Sustainability Plan Competition among local highschools. Each participating school assembled a team of students and teachers, and submitted written proposals and budgets for project plans to make their schools more environmentally friendly and energy efficient. Each team also made a live presentation to a panel of judges–energy professionals from the community. By the end of the competition, GREENevada™ awarded a total of $28,000 to the schools. Each of the nine schools that participated was awarded at least $1,000 to bring their plans to fruition. Reed High School was the grand prize winner of $12,000 to fund their bathroom renovation project. Visit the GREENevada™ website to learn more!
