Marie Smith did excellent work preparing her HS students to propose energy improvements at Sparks High School as part of Project ReCharge. Their proposal to to replace light fixtures with LEDs is being funded!
Marie teaches Earth Science at Sparks High. Her favorite part of teaching is that it is a new challenge every day. Marie was inspired to become an educator after taking a college class teaching younger grades about agriculture. “My professors told me that I had a knack for teaching.” Marie has a tradition of starting off the first day of each school year with a lab.
Marie promotes sustainability by turning off the lights, switching to LED light bulbs, keeping the thermostat low, and sometimes using a fireplace instead of heating.
