Last week, our Co-Executive Director Vanessa and our Program Manager Laura took a trip out to Arizona meeting up with our master teacher Cameron Piggott to host an in-person professional learning session and introduce new teachers to our program. Another successful day of material prepping! Last Another successful day of material prepping! Last Friday, Envirolution staff and Tesla employee volunteers spent another day preparing material for Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day, our upcoming virtual event in partnership with Tesla. The volunteers prepared different components of our educational kits that will allow students to make their own simple motors. This hands-on activity will enable students to gain experience in creating a small-scale engineering design and visually understand the internal functioning of motors used in Tesla cars. We are so thankful for all our volunteers who help ensure this event is successful. Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day is going virtu Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day is going virtual! Envirolution and Tesla have partnered together once again to host this national event dedicated to inspiring young girls and those who identify as non-binary and genderqueer to pursue engineering careers. On February 26th, participants will receive a virtual behind-the-scenes tour of the Tesla facilities, engage in an optional engineering-related hands-on activity, and learn about a variety of engineering careers along with the inspiring women behind them. Last Friday, Envirolution and @teslamotors employe Last Friday, Envirolution and @teslamotors employee volunteers worked hard to prepare materials for the upcoming virtual Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day event in partnership with Tesla. Throughout the day, volunteers helped assemble materials for students to make their own simple motor while using the engineering design process. Today we welcomed Javaria Aziz to our team! Javari Today we welcomed Javaria Aziz to our team! Javaria is our new AmeriCorps Education and Outreach Coordinator. She will help educate students and our community about Envirolution's STEAM programs and impact. Javaria has a bachelor's in Geological Sciences and a love for everything related to geology and the outdoors. In her free time, she likes to rock climb, and as a self-taught metalsmith, she makes her own jewelry! (check out @wildernesswandererjewelry !) Before joining Envirolution, Javaria worked for the National Park Service as an Educational Assistant at Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve! To reduce her impact on the environment and minimize microplastics, Javaria uses a biodegradable charcoal floss made of bamboo fibers. Most plastics in the ocean break up into tiny particles called "microplastics." Aquatic life and birds can mistake microplastics for food. Floss is a significant source of microplastic that many people don't even think about! We are so excited to have Javaria on board and can't wait to see all the incredible things she will accomplish with Envirolution! #envirolution #microplastics #welcome
Yesterday a group of 19 students from Dayton Eleme Yesterday a group of 19 students from Dayton Elementary participated in the hands-on portion of Virtual Career Quest with Envirolution and Tesla. The students worked to make a simple motor and learned about the engineering design process. The students were so engaged and had a great time! We develop Project Recharge curriculum to reach al We develop Project Recharge curriculum to reach all students, including underrepresented populations, by making it relevant, accessible, and inclusive. The curriculum speaks to various lived experiences, is accessible to different learning styles, and includes diverse cultures and backgrounds. ✨Teacher Spotlight Series! ✨ This month we are ✨Teacher Spotlight Series! ✨ This month we are spotlighting Ann Dominguez! Ann is a middle school educator at O'Brien STEM Academy, where she has been teaching for three years. Ann is excited to bring Project ReCharge to her classroom and teach STEAM subjects. "I think science is worth being passionate about because it is really integrated into everything. Every subject has some form of science behind it, whether it's language or different medical advancements that have saved people and improved society. Science is always growing, and there is always something new. Whether people realize it or not, science is constantly going on around you. Like something as simple as us being able to sit in chairs is because of science." It is clear that Ann is passionate about science and about teaching the future generation about STEAM!
