Project ReCharge has closed registration for
2019 Summer Professional Development
We appreciate your interest! When we have set the dates for our next Professional Development, they will be posted here. In the meantime, those still interested in the program can use this link to fill out the pre-application. Once your information is added to our records, you will be among the first to be contacted for future trainings. Preference is given to two or more teachers applying from the same grade level at their schools. Teachers going through Project ReCharge together can share lesson ideas and resources, and this makes for an enriched program at their school. More information can be found here.
Thanks to funding from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Energy (NGOE) and Tesla, Project ReCharge reached new five new schools during the 2018-2019 academic year.
We launched 2018’s program with a three-day summer intensive training (in July) followed up with monthly Professional Development throughout the year.
On behalf of the Project ReCharge team and partners, we welcome our new educators and look forward to supporting them for years to come!
Teachers that participate in Professional Development engage in numerous hands-on, energy focused activities like using solar panels to pump water to experiment with different passive cooling techniques on a model house. Lessons on wind, solar, and the importance of the building envelope (the area between the interior and exterior of the building) are just a few lessons that are a part of the 8-12 week Project ReCharge Curriculum.
Teachers surveyed about their experience at the summer training responded that they learned useful teaching strategies during the PD. All of the teachers felt that interacting with other teachers during the PD was useful. 100% of the teachers said they’d recommend this PD course to a colleague.
Here are some teacher quotes from this year’s PD:
- This was hands-down the best PD session I’ve attended. If nothing else, the time and thought put into the material kits is absolutely amazing.
- All of the hands-on application was extremely engaging and effective.
- Loved it! Day went by fast so that means my students will love working on this too! Excited to bring this back to the classroom.
- Very well organized. Presenters had vast amount of knowledge and provided tips to be successful due to having used the materials. Presenters were open to suggestions to improvement on materials.
Past participating teachers have said that the PD was a “well rounded exposure to the program and there were wonderful lesson plans.” They “loved the hands on activities an explanations.” Below are a few photos from the 2018 summer PD. Photos from the 2017 PD can be found on Flickr.
